Grid Sketch

Chalkboard art is the rage right now. Everyone loves the schoolhouse charm of good old fashioned chalk. (I almost wish it wasn't so popular, it detracts from the novelty, but so do we all who live to see such fads come and go.) Some people have even made an art form of it! The first image above should be easily recognizable to anyone who follows the trend on Pinterest. The second is my shameless plagiarism. (I'd give the original artist credit, but I don't know who they are!)

Eventually I will post the finished work. I have had great success with the grid trick. In fact, I didn't even print the original! I laid a grid over the original image (Open Office Draw) and drew one with the same measurements on my paper. Then I sketched the entire thing looking at the computer screen. ("My eyes, my eyes!" I promise you, next time I will print!) Voila!

I am inspired now. I think I want to delve into typography, hand lettering, and illumination.
